Today, San Tan Valley chef Scott Abad advanced to the national quarterfinals of the 2026 Favorite Chef competition (supporting the James Beard Foundation) following his fourth-place finish last year. He serves as director of culinary experience at Acoya Troon and plans to expand his catering business while mentoring local youth.

Queen Creek is hosting 12 free Water-Smart Workshops at the Queen Creek Library + Zane Grey Room, 21802 S. Ellsworth Road, starting Aug. 22 through Apr. 2027. Residents can register to learn water conservation and fall gardening techniques.

At its July 15 meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council recommended approval of seven liquor licenses for local businesses from the Arizona department. Postino Queen Creek at The Switchyard will finish construction in October, while First Watch and 7-Eleven are set to open on Sept. 21 and Oct. 1, respectively.
