- ➤ The Town of Queen Creek opened its new Recreation & Aquatic Center at Frontier Family Park on March 29 with a 7:30 a.m. ribbon cutting, offering an indoor track, fitness center, pool with lazy river, sports courts, teen room and classrooms—memberships were available that day for residents with an active CivicRec account. The outdoor aquatic area with a competition lap pool and slides will open in May—non-residents may purchase a day pass if they are with a Town member. Queen Creek Sun Times

- ➤ Mountainside Fitness announced plans to open a new gym in Queen Creek at the northwest corner of Combs and Gantzel roads near Target, Sprouts and Fry’s—The 42,000 square feet facility will offer modern equipment, over 70 daily group classes, locker rooms and an elevated childcare program and will open in December. - ➤ Local filmmaker Samantha Boubel uses her films to entertain audiences and shed light on social issues. She stars in the thriller Down Radical (a film addressing human trafficking) and previously directed the short film Fragile (which tackles struggles with addiction and abuse). Queen Creek Sun Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Teachers and staff at Queen Creek Unified School District will get a 3% raise—approved by the Governing Board today—after the 2024 budget override renewal passed. The raise will help support the district's educators. Queen Creek Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Wednesday, April 2, Pinal County Air Quality will issue three-day burn permits for open burning of plant material, with all permits expiring by May 1 and issuance to be suspended on April 30 (state law prohibits open burning from May 1 to Sept. 30) (this step helps lower wildfire risks as temperatures rise).
