- ➤ United Food Bank, 12News, and Fry's Food Stores launched their Summer of a Million Meals campaign to raise $200,000 to help provide one million meals for food insecure families in Arizona. The fundraiser kicked off mid-May and will run through Labor Day—telethons are scheduled on July 10 and August 14 while a Food Drive Friday event was held on June 14 at the Mesa volunteer center on 358 E. - ➤ Ivanka Koleva, 52, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the second-degree murder of her husband, Stefan Koleva, whose body was found stabbed and shot at their Gilbert home nearly two years ago – police recovered a gun from a Tempe store and family members reported her unusual behavior before the death. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 5, the Town Council lowered Queen Creek's primary property tax rate from $1.63 to $1.55 per $100 of assessed value—reducing the average homeowner’s tax bill to about $434. The measure, part of a five-year freeze begun in 2022, is expected to save residents nearly $557 overall—helping to stabilize tax costs amid rising home values. Queen Creek Sun Times
