If you follow East Valley schools, the state's letter grades are in. Chandler Unified had a record 34 schools earn an “A” for 2025-26, up from the previous best of 31. Gilbert Public Schools, Higley Unified and Chandler Unified all earned a district “A”.

  • Chandler Unified: 34 A's, nine B's, one C (Andersen Junior High)
  • Gilbert Public Schools: 32 A's, six B's, none lower
  • Appeal deadline for districts: Nov. 16

The Arizona Department of Education released the grades Oct. 28. Statewide, 534 K-8 schools earned an “A,” up from 476, though that comparison is preliminary because last year's figures reflect appeals. The State Board of Education approved revised cut scores Oct. 26, but they start with 2026-27 grades, so these results aren't affected.

Election

Voters faced long lines at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Election Day

If you voted in the East Valley on Tuesday, you may have seen it. Maricopa County reported about 10:30 a.m. that a high volume of voters was at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. It pointed people to Tumbleweed Recreation Center in Chandler or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Catalina Street in Gilbert. Voter Elise Weeks said, “I guess they're out of printer ink, so you can't actually vote.”

Turnout trailed the county's projection of up to 500,000 voters
